Description
Brief Lives
Bernie Capax has been a lawyer for most of his 15,000 year lifespan. Up to the point where a wall crushes him and he meets Death, who reminds him he got what everyone gets: a lifetime. In Dublin, Dream and Delirium contact an old acquaintance, Pharamond - now Mr. Farrell - about transportation. To search for Destruction they must travel the waking world; Farrell can help with that. They speak to him about Delirium's list of contacts. Elsewhere, a woman named Etain struggles to wakefulness. Half-dressed, she realizes she smells gas and flees the apartment, landing in the back alley seconds ahead of the blast! "The Lawyer" and "Etain of the Second Look" were two of the names on the list. Somewhere else, Destruction finishes working on a painting and goes inside; Barnabas hears something. He opens his gallery and discovers a boiling pool of water, an 'early warning system' whose behavior portends trouble. Dream and Delirium take an airplane to their first destination; Dream tells a little girl "true things" about dreams and flying. They land and Farrell's driver meets them. She will take them to their first stop: to see Mr. Capax, the lawyer...
