In the wake of General Lane's plot to turn the tide of public opinion on Earth even further against Kryptonians, General Zod lies in stasis from his wounds. As Kal-El returns to New Krypton bearing the corpse of Ral-Dar, the assassin who tried to murder Zod, the Council debates war with Earth. But emerging from stasis to address the council, Zod names Kal-El his temporary replacement. Now tasked with the defense of New Krypton, Kal-El is uncomfortable with his new position. But when an operation to provide New Krypton with a moon by removing one from Jupiter comes under attack by Thanagarian forces, he faces his first crisis.
