On his way to an A.R.G.U.S. facility, David Reid wakes up from his coma and calls on his trident, ripping the can in half, and freeing him. Meanwhile, on the island of Aiaia, Wonder Woman has beaten Circe's Ani-Men. Circe admits that defeating the God of War in combat was always a fool's errand - which is why she used the Ani-Men to distract Diana while she took control of Superman's mind. Reluctantly, Diana defends herself against him, trying to snap him back into reality, but she is chained and held by the Ani-Men. Circe comments that, like every god she's ever met, Diana has a soft heart. While she has never doubted the Amazon's power, she has every reason to doubt her judgment. Superman, for example, is a source of softness for her. In the meantime, Magog has begun attacking innocents back in New York, and Circe opens a doorway so that Diana can see it. She explains that saving Superman closes that doorway - but abandoning him to the witch means he will fall under her control forever. Circe is sure that Diana will make the wrong choice - her lover - and prove that an Amazon's mercy is only skin deep. Diana responds that the choice is not remotely difficult, breaking her chains and leaping through the doorway. On the other side, Diana stops Magog from crushing innocents with a bus, reminding that he's been misguided enough, and she is not his enemy. He responds that heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman bring nothing but destruction to everyone's lives, and he's had enough. Wonder Woman insists that he is fooling himself. He thrusts his trident at her, warning that its glare will be the last thing she sees before he strings her up with her own lasso - until he realizes that she hasn't got her lasso. She explains that she has learned not to rely on just her weapons. Back on Aiaia, Superman struggles to resist Circe's manipulations until he lays his hand on the lasso, and is immediately freed of her charms. She attempts to weave magics to stop him, but he flies straight at her, shooting through the portal she made, and escapes. Circe must admit that she underestimated Superman and Wonder Woman - and overstimated Magog's use. She decides to let them believe they've won for now. Joining with Wonder Woman, Superman helps to take down Magog and free him of Circe's control. Diana suggests that Superman take David back to A.R.G.U.S. and then meet her back at home. When he catches up with her, he finds her working on writing. She explains that she wants to use writing - as he does - to connect to the lives of the people she let fall through the cracks, in the hopes that it will prevent her from letting that happen at all. Having written up the stories of those who were lost in the Apokoliptian invasion, she admits that while her writing may not be good - she knows it makes a difference.
