Damage and Jesse discover that the ghosts are actually the Phantasmagoria, self-described as "an obscure back road on evolution's map". Their power combines with human emotion to create the visions of ghosts, unless they strive to prevent it. So they hide. But one of them, Manes, is tired of hiding and means to kill the Titans, who have come to see why Jesse dropped out of contact. They discover and begin to battle the phantoms, not knowing these are from their own minds. Finally, Sara, one of them, helps the Titans overcome Manes. The Titans agree to keep their existence a secret, and leave. Afterwards, their conversation reveals that much of what the Titans learned was artiface. And in a cavern below, the Phantasmoria survey hundreds, perhaps more, of capsules, each containing what appears to be a ghost...
