Description
The Quest for the Elementals, Part VI: A Descent Of Shadows
The war between Green and Grey goes poorly for Green. Part of the problem is that too many elementals are active, drawing from the Green, instead of rooted and nourishing it. Tuuru assumes Yggdrasil's place as leader of the Green, given that half of Yggdrasil has been corrupted by the Grey. Within the dream state a "tongue" of Matango tries to coerce Abby into drinking a draught that will convert her to the Grey! Tefé summons a kind of storm to help her mother. Flowers grow within the Grey sanctuary, evidence that perhaps Matango has taken on too many elementals, too quickly. Ohtehrah taunts him with this, and reveals that the ghosts of the Grey's former home seem displeased: they lent Matango energy and he has not used it wisely. Swamp Thing, descending Yggdrasil's Grey half, encounters Abby and Tefé and has Canan Kax take them back to the Founders' Grove and their bodies. Swamp Thing reaches a chamber, the Vault of Discarded Selves, where are stored the former bodies of elementals debased into the Grey. But why keep these? Because he can't destroy them; they are the seeds from which Matango and the Grey avatars grew. He demands Swamp Thing surrender to one voice - Matango's voice! But Swamp Thing has a different plan. Using a piece of Matango's Green shell, he forces Matango to feed on his former self, which forces him into hibernation. Ohtehrah assumes leadership of the Grey and ends the war. Ohtehrah has promised the ghosts of the Grey that if the Green falters the Grey will replace it - while hoping that Tefé can prevent that from ever happening. a new status quo has emerged. Will it last?
