Description
Death and the Maidens, Chapter One
The cost of his extremely old age is catching up to Ra's al Ghul. Thanks to Batman's concerted efforts to eliminate the Lazarus Pits he must bathe in to renew his youth, his health is failing. Batman is also preventing him from creating new pits, by locating suitable sites and developing them, burying the earth Ra's needs. As his health fails, he turns to his daugher Nyssa, with who he does not have a good history. Nyssa has a pit that Batman is unaware of, but due to their past together, she refuses to allow him to use it. Batman is facing a crisis himself. Though he can recall the facts of his parent's murder, he can no longer remember them in his heart. He feels that his parents murder was too long ago for him to feel the loss and rage that gave birth to the Batman. On the anniversary of their death, as he stands in Crime Alley, he spies Ubu, servant of Ra's al Ghul watching him from a rooftop. Ubu tells him that Ra's is waiting for him back at the Batcave, wanting to speak about something.
