Held by the would be Homo Magi named Adam, Zatanna manages to break the influence of the drugs she has been given and regains the ability to cast spells. She confronts the friend she had tried to help, Sheri, but is attacked by Adam himself who has managed to attain magical powers which appear to have driven him mad. The League are alerted and gather to rescue her while Gypsy manages to track down the girl she and J'onn J'onnz have been hunting in connection with a murder case. She convinces the girl, Pamela, to talk to her and reveals her reasons for having run away from her family, electing to stay with Pamela rather than answer the signal. J'onn J'onnz tracks down the killer but it injured in the fight and unable to respond to Zatanna's signal. The League, meanwhile, find Zatanna who claims the signal was a false alarm and they leave while the real Zatanna, trapped again by Adam, watches them go.
