Dr. Kent V. Nelson, nephew of the original wearer of Fate's helm, finds the helmet after having fallen on hard times, reduced to starring in a bum fight video. Putting the helmet on merely to keep the rain off his head, he witnesses the fate of the helmet since the end of Infinite Crisis. Before he can recover, he relives his recent past, thinking back to the small recognition he had received due to his therapy work and how he had lost that and his wife and child due to an affair, coupled with one of his patients coming off his medication and causing a traffic accident. A moment later he is attacked by a supernatural beast and forced to transform into Dr. Fate to kill it. Its owner arrives, pledging to kill the new Fate.

- 2.0 GD: Well-worn; covers may be detached but present.
- 1.0 FR: Heavily damaged; large chunks missing.
- 0.5 PR: Fragile; missing pages or severe degradation.
