Tony Stark violates his own directives and leads an illegal operation into Mongolia, since the alternative is continued development of Extremis. They intend to track down Najeeb, a man wanted for terrorist activites, only to find him dead and protected by several mindless inmates. They fight their way out with the corpse, but things still go awry in the autopsy when the corpse opens its eyes and massive tendrils come out of its chest cavity.
