Jessica Drew and David Ishima are enjoying a day out at the beach when they are attacked by assassins. During the fight, Jessica is stabbed, and the thugs almost get away with David, if not for the timely arrival of Sabrina Morrel, who manages to turn the tide of battle. The Lieutenant explains that the assassins were working for crimelord Nguyen Ngoc Coy. Jessica then passes out as a result of her injuries and revives later on, only to find that Sabrina has taken Jessica to the headquarters of the Dragon Clan of the Yakuza. Sabrina takes Jessica to her master Ieyasu Imura, who convinces Jessica to help them as Spider-Woman to stop Coy. As Spider-Woman, shows up at Coy's headquarters, where she drops in on a business deal going on between Coy and the Kingpin, who has come to San Francisco to discuss recovering Coy's relatives from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in New York. The scene then erupts into violence when an group of Mandroids attack. Jessica manages to fight them off, but an elevator containing the escaping Kingpin and Coy's men gets its cable snapped, and Jessica narrowly saves their lives. With no evidence to arrest him, the Kingpin is allowed to go free, while the men in the Mandroid armor and Coy's men are all arrested. Before departing, Spider-Woman talks the Kingpin into breaking his promise to kidnap Coy's relatives to repay his debt to her for saving his life. The Kingpin agrees and the two depart on friendly terms, for now. Returning to the Dragon Clan's base hidden in Alcatraz, Jessica reports back and declines their offer to join theeir group, saying that she is a loner by nature and would ultimately not fit in.
